Missoula International Airport is located approximately 150 miles south of the West Entrance.Glacier Park International Airport is located near Kalispell and is approximately 30 miles west of the West Entrance.Mary Entrance is the eastern entry point of Going-to-the-Sun-Road and provides access to the St. From the east, all three east-side entrances can be reached by taking Highway 89 north from Great Falls through the town of Browning (approximately 125 miles) and following signs from there.From the west, access to the Lake McDonald area, Park Headquarters, the Apgar Visitor Center, and Going-to-the-Sun-Road is via Highway 2 east to the town of West Glacier (approximately 33 miles from Kalispell).Crews are working on rock clean up and install guard rails along Going to the Sun Road before opening to the public, which usually takes a couple weeks. On Monday June 27th, the Big Drift was reported to have a 40 ft deep section of snow. This is usually the last and biggest challenge the road crews face when clearing the road. Road crews typically work Monday through Friday between 6 am and 4 pm MDT, please be respectful of the Road Crew Closures.įriday, July 1st, both east and west side crews punched through the Big Drift a lane and a half wide down to the road surface, which is solid ice. Plows have finished for the season, however road crews are still preparing Going to the Sun Road. Visitors should remain vigilant for hazards such as falling debris, including rockfall, wildlife, administrative traffic, bicycle traffic, etc. Avalanche hazard is low but still possible. There will be no Hiker/Biker Avalanche Hazard Closure on either side of the divide starting Friday July 8,2022 when the road crews are done working for the day. Violators are putting their safety and the safety of our park rangers at risk and could face up to a $5,000 fine and up to 6 months in jail. Visitors are prohibited from going past the hiker/biker closures. Road Crew Closures are in place Monday through Friday, usually 6 am to 4 pm during plowing.
